Do you know what a “flowering tea ball” is?

Also known as “blooming tea”, a flowering tea ball is quite simply a bundle of dried tea leaves wrapped around a flower.  They are made by binding tea leaves and flowers into a bulb, then allowing them to dry for steeping later.

When steeped, the bundle unfurls like a blooming flower.  Flowering tea was developed in China in the 1980s and became popular in Western countries in the early 2000s.    This beautiful tea is best served in a glass container so the flowering effect can be enjoyed.  But don’t worry, it’s not a one-time brew.  The bundles can be reused two or three times without becoming bitter.

The Tea Experience NY is featuring a Strawberry flowering tea ball in the September SimpliciTEA box as part of our garden theme.  Grab your favorite clear container and enjoy the brew view!
